Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Review- decent performance and great great mileage sedan

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is a mid size premium sedan, which is the successor to the company’s own sedan- SX4. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz comes in 14 versions with two engine, two transmission and two fuel options. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the most aerodynamic product of Maruti by now, as the company claims.

The price of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz starts at Rs 7.69 lakhs and goes up to Rs 10.71 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi. The main competitors of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz are the Honda City, Nissan Sunny, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna Fluidic and the Skoda Rapid.

ENGINE AND SPECIFICATIONS

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz comes in both petrol and diesel guises. The petrol engine is powered by a 1.4 litre, 1373 cc, 4-cylinder, VVT, K-Series motor that churns out a maximum power of 91 bhp at 6000 rpm with a peak torque of 130 Nm at 4000 rpm. On the other hand, the 1.3 litre, 1248 cc, diesel engine produces 89 bhp of power at 4000 rpm along with a peak torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm.

Both the engines have been taken from the Ertiga MPV and come mated to a five-speed manual transmission though, the petrol engine is also available with a four-speed automatic transmission. It is notable that the diesel engine of the sedan now comes with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology.

In terms of mileage, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz SHVS diesel has an ARAI certified mileage of 28.09 kmpl. On the other hand, in the petrol fuel trim, the manual transmission of the the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz gives a mileage of 20.73 kmpl while the automatic transmission delivers a fuel economy of 19.12 kmpl, according to ARAI.

As far as acceleration of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is concerned, the petrol engine achieves the 0 -100 km/h mark in just 14 seconds with a top speed of 160 km/hr whereas, its SHVS diesel engine reaches the 0 -100 km/h barrier in 13.3 seconds with a top speed of 155 km/hr. In terms of comfort and convenience, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz comes equipped with highly advanced features such as keyless push start system, a seven inch touch screen navigation system, height adjustable driver seat, camera assisted reverse parking, rear AC vents, automatic climate control system with dust and pollen filter, rear window sun guard, front and rear accessory sockets, Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in connectivity and, at the same time, the steering gets several control buttons mounted on it.

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has seating capacity for 5 persons with vast legroom, shoulder room and head room for all the passengers. In addition, the sedan has front centre armrest and rear centre armrest with personal reading lamps and cup holders for both front and rear passengers. The boot space of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is 510 litres which is the largest in its class.

PERFORMANCE

The performance of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is fairly decent. The sedan flaunts a tilt adjustable steering wheel and, at the same time, the power steering is extremely responsive and manoeuvres well even on the cramped city roads. The handling of the car is good.

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has front discs brakes and rear drum brakes. Besides, the Mcpherson Strut front suspension and Torision Beam rear suspension of the sedan absorb bad road conditions and make travel comfortable. 

In terms of safety, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz comes loaded with plenty of features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), dual airbags, seat belt pretensioners and force limiters and rear parking sensors.

In addition to these safety features, the sedan is built on Suzuki Total Effective Control Technology (TECT), with effective use of High Tensile Strength Steel, hence the body of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is robust.  

ADVANTAGES

DRAWBACKS

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz does not have chilled glove box feature. Thigh support for rear passengers is not satisfactory. Moreover, the sedan does not have a sun roof, rear wiper and traction control.

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has been crafted with perfection to enjoy the driving. The sedan is feature loaded and has the best-in-class boot capacity of 510 litres. The engines have decent performance and deliver great mileage. No doubt, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is a comfortable and value for money product.
