Retrofitting a regular scooter for CNG system

Lovato , the manufacturer of CNG Kits , has received approvals for 18 Scooter models available in the market.Apart from Lovato , ITUK is the another CNG scooter kit manufacturer in India. While ITUK is approved by ARAI and Pune , Lovato has got ICAT Gurgaon approval. The expected cost to get a scooter fitted with this CNG  kit is about RS 15,000 .

Sensing a huge potential in this segment other kit manufacturers are also planning to launch their two-wheeler kits.

The CNG Kits (available in Mumbai )  can be retrofitted on 18 existing scooters.These are Hero Duet 110 ,Pleasure  110 , Maestro 110 , Honda Activa 125 , Dio 110 , Mahindra  Duro DZ 125 , Gusto 110 , TVS Jupiter 110 , Zest 110 , Wego 110 , Vespa VX 125 , Yamaha Fascino 110 , Ray 110 , Alpha 110.

Recently ,  Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) in association with Eco Fuel (Indian Partners of Lovato, Italy) , launched CNG fuelled two-wheelers in the country.

The CNG kit for two wheelers comes with two CNG cylinders of 1.2 kg each .

The travel cost is very less (0.60 paisa/km) in these CNG scooters where per kg CNG delivers 120-130 KMs.On the other hand a petrol scooter will deliver only 45-50 kmpl on a single tank of around 5 litre.

However , the retrofitted CNG kits are not factory fitted hence it is not yet clear whether it will nullify the manufacturer's warranty or not.

Last year in Delhi CNG scooters (Honda Activa) trial run project in India by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change found to be successful.
