Toyota Fortuner is one of the best-selling SUVs in the Indian market today. First launched in the year 2009, today this car has gone way ahead. It is now more powerful, better looking and has got enhanced features to boast off. Before being launched in India it was launched in Thailand, Malaysia, Oman and other such nations. This vehicle is assembled in India by Toyota Kirloskar Motors Pvt. Ltd. With the new facelift Toyota’s popularity has grown more. Engine and technical specifications

Toyota Fortuner is powered by a 2982 cc 3.0 litres direct injection common rail diesel engine. It develops maximum power of 168 Bhp at 3600 rpm and peak torque of 343 Nm at 1400-3400 rpm. There is a turbo charger with intercooler technology too given in the car. It is based on the four wheel drive system and has got a five speed manual transmission gearbox.

The top speed of this engine is 176 kmph. There is another model with the same engine and a two wheel drive system. The transmission gearbox given in the two wheel drive system engine is four speed automatic one. The kerb weight of this SUV is 1955 kgs and the ground clearance is 221 mm.

The wheelbase of this SUV is 2750 mm and the car measures 4695 mm in length, 1840 mm in width and 1850 mm in height. The size of the alloy wheels is 265/65 R17. It has got ventilated disc brakes at the front and leading-trailing drum brakes at the rear. The two wheel drive engine has got a double wishbone coil springs suspensions at the front and non-independent suspension at the rear. The four wheel drive engine has got 4 wheel lateral rod suspension at the rear and a new double wishbone suspension at the front.

Exterior designing

Just like most of the other car companies, Toyota Fortuner too has got a logo placed in the centre of its chrome finish grille which has been given a fresher design. The headlamp design has now been made a lot sleeker. The fog lamps have been restyled and the headlamp washer comes standard with this car. The bonnet is now given clear lines exuding a charm in its front look.

The Fortuner is available in some great colours like black mica, light blue metallic, grey mica metallic, silver mica metallic and super white. These colours give the car a bold and chic look. The side steps now give a sharper look to the car and the over fender is responsible for the car’s huge look.

The body coloured outside rear view mirrors are electrically foldable with integrated turn indicators. A new chrome bar has been given at the rear and the new name display of the car is thick and deeply embossed. The bumpers have low placed reflectors and their design has also been reworked. All in all, the exterior is now classier.

Interiors

Just like the exterior the interior of the Fortuner too has been reworked. The beige upholstery and advanced instrument cluster steal the show away. The dash board is done up in dual tone beige colour. There are multi-purpose storage places given throughout the cabin. The centre console has got a sporty touch screen with Bluetooth connectivity and DVD audio system.

The steering wheel is four spoke and a reverse camera too has been given in the car. The dark grey colour of the dash gives the interiors a plush look. The driver seat is now six-way adjustable and the surrounds of the console are aluminium-brushed. The visibility is enhanced for the driver. New features include the automatic climate control with rear AC vents, cabin lamp, Optitron meter, multi information display, front and rear armrests, gate type shift levers and new audio head unit with call and Bluetooth functions.

Performance

The safety features of the Fortuner include ABS, EBD, Dual front SRS airbags, LED high mount tail lamps, global outstanding assessment, multi-reflector quad headlamps, enhanced braking system, puncture-resistant tyres and spot braking to avoid accidents. The drive quality of the Fortuner is just superb. The automatic transmission variant’s driving is just effortless and awesome!

The new suspensions do an exceptional job. The jerk and the uneven terrain is less felt inside. The noise, harshness and vibration levels have been greatly reduced. It takes just 3.14 seconds for the Fortuner to de-accelerate from 100 to 0 kmph. The four wheel drive engine takes 9.61 seconds to go from 0-100 kmph and the two wheel drive with an automatic transmission gearbox takes 14.5 seconds for the same job. The mileage given out by the two wheel drive engine falls between 9 to 11 kmpl and the four wheel drive engine gives a mileage between 7 to 11 kmpl.

Verdict

The new Toyota Fortuner is one great SUV to sport. It is bold, beautiful and beast of a machine! Although a little pricey, its budget falls between Rs. 20,79,000 and 21,93,500 (ex-showroom Delhi). If you don’t mind spending in this budget, Toyota Fortuner is the best choice!
