Toyota Rush Review

Toyota Rush is believed to be very similar to the Daihatsu Terrios 2. It has got many good features to its credit. Its looks and design are refreshing for the eyes. With many attractive features and attributes it is counted among good looking seven seater cars. It is not available in India as of now and is mainly popular and fast selling in Malaysia and neighbouring countries. Engine and technical specifications

The Toyota Rush has got two engine options. The first is the 3.0 litre 16 valve D-4D common rail intercooled variable nozzle turbo VNT DOHC diesel engine. It develops maximum power of 163 PS at 3400 rpm and peak torque of 343 Nm a 1400 rpm. The second option is the 2.5 litres 16 valve, D-4D common rail turbo diesel direct injection DOHC diesel engine that produces maximum power of 102 PS at 3600 rpm and peak torque of 260 Nm at 1600-2400 rpm.



Both the engines have got a four speed automatic gate shifter transmission gearbox. The size of the alloy wheels is 215/65 R16. The front brakes are disc type and the rear ones are drum. The front suspension is MacPherson Strut with coil spring and stabiliser bar and the rear one is 4-link with coil spring and lateral rod. The kerb weight of the Rush is 1220 kgs. The fuel tank capacity is that of 50 litres in this car. The minimum turning radius is 5.2 metres.

Exterior designing

The looks of Toyota Rush are much appreciated in the global market, especially in Malaysia. The front grille and the bumper with aero kit together add to the tough exterior design of the car making the car’s exterior look attractive. The colours in which the car is available are silver mica metallic, black metallic, grey metallic, champagne metallic and white. The integrated stop, turn lights and reverse lamps on the rear bumper make the car look elite from the rear. The special protector of the rear bumper helps avoid scratches on loading and unloading luggage. A sporty cover with chrome touch holds the spare tyre at the back. Projector type headlamps help better visibility at night, fog and rain. The chrome finish door handle, stylish door trim and door visor together look fabulous. Power retractable wing mirrors make its use a lot simpler. Roof rail on the top makes the exterior look sportier. LED high mount stop lamp is given with the rear spoiler. The 16” alloy wheels complete the bold look of the car.

Interiors

The seven seat versatile seating arrangement in the Toyota Rush makes the interior very dynamic. The third row seats separately get folded and the other row seats are sliding. Such an arrangement makes the cabin spacious. A 2-DIN audio system with six speaker and steering mounted controls is given in the car that can play MP3, CDs along with USB and AUX-Jack. The A/T gate type gearshift knob is leather covered. Rush sports a dual blower air conditioner. The analogue meter which is black in colour with matte silver trim makes the dashboard appear beautiful. There are many storage places too for the knock knacks in the cabin. The three spoke steering wheel is leather wrapped. The driver’s seat height is adjustable and a protective solar film too is given in the car maintaining the cabin’s coolness. Fabric upholstery is given in the car.

Performance

The engines of the Toyota Rush are smooth and have got a good responsive acceleration but still the pickup seems to be lacking. The main drawback in the performance of the Rush is its lack of power. The Toyota Outstanding Performance Platform is responsible for giving the car a sturdy frame and better abilities to withstand impacts. The suspensions are also made better under this platform. To give good ride quality Toyota Automatic Disconnecting Differential and part time 4WD is given. This system is believed to give good quality rides in various terrains. The flat torque churns out greater fuel economy. The emissions are much lower now and the noise, harshness and vibration levels too have been reduced but the engine is still noisy. The safety features included in the rush are ABS, EBD, SRS airbags, Toyota security system, emergency kit, global outstanding assessment body, anti-jam power window, collapsible steering wheel, and reverse sensor, immobiliser, siren with backup battery, cabin sensor and auto door lock among other safety measures.
