Home-grown automaker Mahindra & Mahindra had discontinued the automatic variants of old Scorpio SUV a few weeks ago. The company had launched it in July 2015 and it was paired with 6- speed gearbox. The automatic transmission was available only in the top variants – S10 2WD and S10 4WD.
But now, the company is planning to launch its popular SUV Scorpio with the new 6- speed automatic gearbox. According to the company’s sources, the new gearbox has been manufactured by the Japanese company. It may be noted that automatic transmission of the same company has been installed in the XUV 500.
However, it is also being said that the gearboxes of Scorpio and XUV 500 will be different because of their drivetrain layout. The engine of Scorpio provides power to the rear wheels whereas the engine of XUV 500 provides power to the front wheels.
It is expected that the company can launch the new Scorpio with automatic transmission on the festive season. As far as price is concerned, its price starts from Rs 9.29 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.3 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi.
