You must have seen army soldiers roaming in Maruti Gypsy or tourists visiting the jungle safari in the Open Gypsy. But soon you will see the soldiers patrolling in the Tata Safari Storm. The Indian Army has already ordered 3200 units of the Tata Safari Storm.
According to reports, Maruti will gradually stop the production of Gypsy by the end of this year and the company will launch Jimny in place of it.The company is also said to be working on Gypsy look alike 4 seater suv.
Maruti Gypsy, which is about three decades old car, was the only petrol car in the 4×4 vehicle range in the country. In point of fact, it was called the vehicle of Indian Army, Para Military Force and amateurs of off-road driving. Now, the Army is giving priority to Tata’s Safari Storm. And because of this reason, there was a tremendous decline in the demand for Maruti Gypsy.
By 2020, India will be completely moved to the BS-VI norms. Apart from this, the crash test regulator will also be fully implemented by the end of this year. Now that, Maruti Suzuki Gypsy is built on old fashioned methods, a new vehicle was needed which is equipped with new standards and facilities. Since the Gypsy had to spend more in equipping new standards and facilities, the company has decided to end the Gypsy brand.
At present, the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy is being sold according to the BS-IV norms and comes equipped with 1.3 liter engine and 80 bhp of power and 103 Nm of torque. The power in Gypsy is sent to four wheels equally.
While, the Tata Safari Storm comes equipped with 2.2 litre diesel engine that produces 156 bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque. At the same time, the engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Since, it is an excellent vehicle for dangerous road conditions as well as severe weather, the Indian army has adopted this vehicle.
