Ford escape 2016 compact crossover SUV Review


The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV produced by Ford. This rakish and sleek SUV comes with reasonably good passenger room and cargo space. Besides, the car has confident body control and responsive handling.

The MSRP of the Ford Escape ranges from $23,590 to $31,745. The major competitors of the Ford Escape are the Toyota RAV4, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Cherokee and Subaru Forester.  


The Ford Escape comes with multiple engine options. The base S trims are a 2.5 liter, four cylinder engine making 168 horsepower and 170 pound feet of torque. The EPA estimated fuel ratings are 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

On the other hand, the SE / Titanium trims are fitted with 1.6 liter, four cylinder, EcoBoost engine making 178 horsepower. The EPA certified fuel ratings for this are 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway in FWD while in 4WD, it is 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

Apart from these, the 2.0 liter, EcoBoost, four cylinder turbocharged engine is more powerful making 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. The EPA estimated fuel ratings are 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway in FWD and 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. This engine achieves the 60 mph in just seven seconds.

Here, it is worth mentioning that all engines are fitted to a responsive and composed 6-speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission. The Ford Escape has fuel capacity of 15.5 gal. Besides, the car features a turning radius of 19.4 inches.          


The Ford Escape does have an aerodynamic design and active grille shutters. The HID (high-intensity discharge) headlamps of the car use less energy and last longer. Other exterior features of the Ford Escape include chrome accents on the lower front fascia grilles, chrome door handles, chrome mirror caps, chrome liftgate appliqué, chrome roof rails, auto wipers and 19-inch chrome wheels, though the base trims are fitted with 17-inch sparkle silver painted wheel.

In terms of dimension, the Ford Escape measures 178.1 inches in length, 81.8 inches in width with mirrors and 66.3 inches in height along with a wheel base of 105.9 inches and a ground clearance of 7.9 inches. Moreover, the weight of the vehicle is 3502 – 3645 lbs and the maximum towing capacity is 3,500 lbs.

The Ford Escape is available with a choice of seven glittering colours – Deep Impact Blue Metallic, Sunset Metallic, Ingot Silver Metallic, Oxford White, Electric Spice Metallic, Shadow Black and Magnetic Metallic.


On the inside, the Ford Escape features high quality interiors. The car has a seating capacity of five passengers. The front seats of the car are wide and comfortable while the rear seats can recline. It also offers adequate head room and segment leading knee room and leg room. In addition, the passenger volume of the Ford Escape is 98.1 cu. ft. and the maximum cargo capacity of the car is 67.8 cu. ft.

In terms of comfort and convenience, the Ford Escape comes loaded with plenty of features such as electric power steering, keyless entry and ignition, cruise control, one touch power windows, audio and cruise controls on steering wheel, remote keyless power door locks, blind spot monitoring, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, height adjustable driver seat and foot activated power liftgate.

Other attractive features of the Ford Escape include 110-volt power outlet, dual zone automatic climate controls, front and rear parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, ten-speaker Sony stereo with HD Radio, speed sensitive volume control, driver and front passenger visor vanity mirrors, front and rear cup holders, all weather floor mats, coat hooks and rear cross traffic alert.  


Performance-wise, the Ford Escape is an excellent car. The car is blessed with Rack-and-Pinion electric power steering systems that consist essentially of a mechanical steering gearbox, a tubular operating cylinder and the steering valve.

The front suspension of the car has independent, MacPherson struts and L-shaped lower control arm with isolated subframe and stabilizer bar whereas the rear suspension has independent integral link, isolated subframe and stabilizer bar.

On the safety front, the Ford Escape comes equipped with a number of safety features such as four-wheel disc brakes with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), SOS post-crash alert system, belt minder, lower anchors and tether anchors for children, Brake Assist (BA), head restraints, tire pressure monitoring system and traction control.  


The main advantage of the Ford Escape is its turbocharged engines that provide decent performance and, at the same time, fuel-efficiency is also good. Moreover, the car comes with a well designed interior.   


The major drawback of the Ford Escape is its rear seat which is average in terms of comfort. Besides, there is not much storage space in the cabin.


The Ford Escape is a brilliant car. The car has a great combination of styling, dynamics and power. Indeed, the Ford Escape is one of the best SUVs that provides an enjoyable driving experience.
