Buying a car in India by 2020 will not be an easy dream (or rather distant for some !) considering the strict guidelines that all auto manufacturers has to follow in BS VI to be enforced from the same year. The entry level segment is the highest selling segment in India and cars like Maruti Alto , Nano , Tiago , Kwid , Eon , Datsun Redi-Go like cars provide the options.Majority of entry level cars have a price around or below Rs 3 lakhs. But when Bharat Stage V1 will come into force in 2020 it will completely change the scene where owning an inexpensive small car will become a distant dream.
Why ? Because the safety feature that will become compulsory to be equipped in these cars will cost these companies extra. And in such scenario , no company , would like to increase the production cost yet willing to sell on the same price.
Why Cars will become so much expensive ?
It is expected that after the guidelines of BSVI by the Government of India come into force those entry level cars which were earlier focusing on their sales volume unlike car safety will get around 25% to 30% more expensive.A senior official of major car manufacturing company in India has agreed that after the implementation of Bharat Stage 6 emission norms the companies including his will have to fit every safety equipment in these cars and since , this will cost a lot of money , no company will bear the loss of selling cheaper cars in India.
What Auto Sector is doing ?
The Indian auto industry is also gearing up , gradually , for this change. The new entry level cars are being introduced with many standard safety features like airbags , ABS and EBD.Maruti India has invested 3800 crores for pedestrian and frontal crash test facility center at Rohtak in Haryana. It has also made safety norms test for pedestrians , offset frontal and full frontal crash on its popular cars like S-Cross , Baleno , Ciaz , Vitara Brezza and Ignis.
Government Plans
Considering the high number of road accidents in India which kills 2 lakhs of people every year , the Indian Government , has asked the automobile companies to follow guidelines by 2020 under which all the cars sold in India will compulsory need to follow safety norms. The safety features like Airbags , ABS and Crash Test are being made compulsory. The Bharat new vehicle safety assessment program says that every passenger car have to pass frontal impact , offset frontal impact and side crash test after October 2017.
Then the automaker will be given one year to make changes towards Pedestrian Protection. The car companies will have to ensure the safety of people walking on foot on the roads. The Indian Government is also working on ‘Scrap Policy’ to scrap heavy vehicles that are more than 15 years old. When India will implement BS6 in 2020 , every car , will have to implement all the safety norms and features.
Let us tell you that these norms will not much effect premium segment cars like BMW , Audi and Mercedes because these are already fitted with safety features whose validity will be intact after 2020.
