The demand for diesel powered cars and SUV has been declined on account of pollution. In this scenario, the renowned auto-maker of the country Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to launch a petrol variant of its flagship SUV – the XUV500 in the first quarter of 2018.The AMT variant of XUV 500 was launched in Nov 2015 with a mileage of 14kmpl and diesel fuel tank capacity of 70 liters.
The company believes that customers’ interest is decreasing in the diesel vehicles of this segment. Hence, the company wants to launch this powerful SUV in petrol variant. Moreover, the company is also planning to launch a petrol version of its popular Scorpio model, although it will depend on customer demand.
Apart from this, the company is, too, planning to make another SUV ‘S201‘, which will be developed on the SsangYong Tivoli platform in the second half of 2018 – 19. In a communication to investors, Mahindra & Mahindra said, “petrol version of the XUV500 is likely to be launched in the first quarter of financial year 2017 – 18”.
