Volkswagen begins production of 5 seater SUV Tiguan in India

Volkswagen Production Starts ; To Come in May 2017

The new SUV – Tiguan’s production was started by the Germany car manufacturer Volkswagen at Aurangabad in Maharashtra. The SUV will be introduced in India this year.

The 5 seater compact crossover sporty vehicle VW Tiguan which will have a 2- liter diesel engine with a 7-speed automatic gearbox.The engine of upcoming suv will produce 147 hp power and 340Nm of torque.Unlike European versions it will miss out the 2.0 litre TSI motor. The average mileage of Tiguan is expected to be around 13 kmpl.

This car is based on MQB platform of VW which is a modular and flexible base for compact-size vehicles in Volkswagen.The vehicle was showcased in the 2016 auto exhibition in India.

In a statement, director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, Michael Mayer said, “We are delighted to introduce one of our most successful global products to the Indian market. The Tiguan will be our premium SUV offering for India and will cater to the unceasing demand in the segment”. He further added, “Our customers will now have an extended portfolio, ranging from hatchback to executive sedan, to meet their requirements at our showrooms”.

The SUV will compete with Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.It is expected to have a price in the range between 25-30 lakhs.The suv will go for sale from May 2017 as per reports.
