In India, the entry-level aka budget segment cars make the major chunk among total car sales. No wonder, automobile companies keep launching more affordable and fuel efficient cars in the Indian market in diesel and petrol versions. Let us find out the 9  most affordable low price impressive mileage cars in India.

1 Tata Nano GenX

Price Range: Rs 2.36 Lakh-Rs 3.34 Lakh

Under Rs 3 lakh budget, Tata Nano happens to be the cheapest car in India with a price that begins from Rs 2.36 Lakh. It has 6 variants in the market. The CNG version Tata Nano ‘EMax XM’ has a price of Rs 2.96 Lakh. Two variants XMA (Rs 3.14 Lakh) and XTA  (Rs 3.34 Lakh) are available with AMT transmission.

The small and compact size of the car makes it very suitable for small cities and lesser parking spaces. It’s 180 mm ground clearance is the best among small cars.

The engine of Nano is 2 cylinder MPFI 0.6 liter 624 cc petrol engine. It has got a manual four-speed gearbox. The power developed by this engine is 38 PS at 5500 rpm and a peak torque of 51 Nm at 4000 rpm.

The fuel efficiency of the Nano is very impressive at 19 kmpl in the city and a great 27 kmpl on highways. The AMT version delivers 21.9 kmpl of mileage.

Although low in sales, Tata Motors continues to produce this iconic car on the order-to-order basis.

2 Datsun Redi-Go

Datsun redi-GO is also one of the most affordable and fuel-efficient entry-level hatchback car produced by Datsun. There are 11 variants of the car in the Indian market.

Both Datsun Redi-Go and Kwid share the same architectural platform but the former comparatively shorter and lighter.

The car in its 0.8-liter engine churns out 54 ps of power and 72 Nm of torque. This 0.8L petrol 5-speed manual gearbox engine delivers 25.17 kmpl of mileage.

On the other side, the 999cc (1.0L) engine of Datsun Redi-Go produces 67 bhp of power at 5500 rpm. The maximum torque produced in this variant is 91 Nm at 4250 rpm.

The base model price of this car starts at 2.67 lakhs. The base price of the 1.0L engine is Rs 3.89 Lakh. The 1.0L engine AMT model of Datsun RediGo starts with Rs 4.24 Lakh.

Datsun Redi-Go delivers 22.5 kmpl mileage with a 799cc engine.

3 Renault Kwid

Kwid is the latest in the bunch of most fuel-efficient petrol car having an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl.

The 5-speed manual gearbox Kwid is powered by a 799cc (and also launched in 1000cc engine) three-cylinder petrol motor.

Renault KWID’s 0.8L engine (3-cylinder) has a capacity of 799cc. It generates 54 ps of power at 5678 rpm. On the other hand, its 1.0 L engine offering generates 68 ps of power at 5500 rpm. This engine has 91 Nm torque at 4250 rpm.

The Renault KWID is available in 8 variants. It is available in both 0.8 ltr and 1.0 ltr engines.The base price of Renault KWID (0.8L) is Rs 2.76 Lakh. The 1.0L engine KWID has a base price of Rs 4.20 Lakh.

Similarly, the AMT version of KWID has a price of Rs 4.50 Lakh. The sporty and better looking KWID model ‘Climber’ has a base price of Rs 4.45 Lakh while its AMT version costs Rs 4.75 Lakh.

4 New Maruti Suzuki Alto 2019

Maruti Suzuki Alto 2019 which was earlier known as Alto 800 is the end most affordable and fuel efficient car in India.  It happens to be the first car in the entry-level segment to get the BS6 compliant engine.

The 3-cylinder F8D engine of new Alto delivers 48ps power at 6000 rpm. The maximum torque produced is 69 Nm at 3500 rpm.

The car was also introduced in CNG versions in its LXi and LXi (O) variants. Alto is available in 7 variants including 2 CNG models.

5 Maruti Suzuki Alto K10

6 Hyundai Santro 2018

After a period of four years, Hyundai Santro has launched again in 2018 in India with improved features. Soon after the launch, the budget small car became one of the highest selling cars in the segment.

Hyundai Santro in its new offering uses 1.1-liter petrol engine which outputs 69 bhp of power and 99 Nm of peak torque. Santro is the first Hyundai small car to get AMT gearbox availability. The car is also available in CNG version where its engine outputs 59 bhp of power.

On the mileage front, the four cylinders Hyundai Santrol delivers 20.3 kmpl in petrol model while 20.3 km/kg is received from CNG variant.

As far as the price is concerned, the base price of the car in petrol variant starts from Rs 3.90 Lakh, the AMT version price starts from Rs 5.20 Lakh. The CNG version of i10 (Petrol+CNG) starts from Rs 5.37 Lakh.

7 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

Price Range: Rs 4.34 Lakh-Rs 5.69 Lakh

This B segment hatchback continues to be the favorite city car of both big and small cities.

Maruti Suzuki has done quite a few facelifts of this car and every time it was launched with a new facelift, it won the hearts of its users all over again.

The Alto K10’s 1 litre 998 cc KB series petrol engine develops a peak power of 68 Ps at 5500 rpm and peak torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. Its 1.2-liter engine with 1197 cc capacity outputs 83 ps power at 6000 rpm. The maximum torque produced by this 4 cylinder engine is 113 Nm at 4200 rpm.

8 Tata Tiago

Price Range: Rs 4.39 Lakh-Rs 6.61 Lakh

Tata Tiago is another good entry level hatchback car by Tata whose base price starts from 3.2 lakhs. There are 15 variants of Tata Tiago ranging from petrol, diesel to AMT supported versions.

The 1199cc engine of this car delivers 23.84 kmpl mileage which is impressive.

There are 2 versions of this car currently available in India, a 1.2-liter three-cylinder Revotron engine with 85 PS (83.80 hp) at 6,000 rpm and, 114 Nm at 3,500 rpm and a 1.05-liter three-cylinder Revotorq unit to make 70 PS (69.01 hp) at 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm at 1,800-3,000 rpm.

9 Hyundai Grand i10
