Ford Figo

The Ford Figo is one of the most popular cars in the hatchback segment of the Indian automobiles market. Ford was earlier known to be the manufacturer of sedans and did not really touch the lives of the common man. With the new Figo rolling in, Ford has rediscovered itself in the Indian market and has almost carved its niche in the hatchback cars. No one had thought that Ford could enter this segment of cars and create big news. Ford is now looked upon as the latest successful entrant of the hatchback cars segment and people’s expectations have grown more from the company. So now let us move on to the forthcoming sections of this review to know more about the Ford Figo.

Engine and technical specifications

The Ford Figo is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. Talking of the petrol engine first, it is powered by 1196 cc 1.2 litre four cylinder DOHC, sequential electric fuel injection system engine that produces 71 PS of power at 6250 rpm and maximum torque of 102 Nm at 4000 rpm. It has got a five speed manual transmission gearbox and meets BS-IV emission norms. The top speed of this engine is 170 kmph.

The second engine option is the 1399 cc 1.4 litre Duratorq diesel engine that is capable of giving 69 PS power at 4000 rpm and a peak torque of 160 Nm at 2000 rpm. It has also been provided with a five speed manual transmission gearbox. The top speed of this engine is 175 kmph. The ground clearance of Figo is 168mm and the wheelbase extends to 2489mm which is really good. This hatchback measures 1680mm in width, 1427mm in height and 3795mm in length. The boot space measures to 284 litres. The tubeless radial tire size is 175/65 R14.

Exterior design

The Ford Figo is an extremely good looking hatchback which is long and beautiful. It is the first to be launched in such an elongated design and is not following the bandwagon of launching cars by copying design of another popular car. Ford was bold enough to stand apart and launch a car with a unique and beautiful design. This car brought in the Indian market, a fresh new design which was much required by the hatchback buyers. This fresh change instantly clicked among the Indian buyers and everybody started loving its design. This hatchback is available in some awesome colors such as chill, Colorado red, moon dust silver, diamond white, squeeze, panther black and sea grey. The side and the rear look of the car is its biggest USP.

The bold headlight cluster and eye shaped headlamps work very well in giving a beautiful look to the car. The turn indicators above the headlights and the fog lamps give a chic look to the car. The front grille, rear and front bumpers and the anti-drip wiping on the windshield at the front together put up a great job. An aluminum trim coating is done on the door handles, console and over the gauges for a beautiful look of the car. Ford Figo has an in built heater and air conditioning system for varying the temperature between -10 to 49 degree Celsius. Besides these features it has lane change indicator and hazard deceleration alert are other interesting features. The latter is used to indicate the driver for rapid reduction of speed. The hazard lamp is designed especially for this purpose will start flashing when necessary.

Interiors

The interiors of the Ford Figo are fairly impressive too, though not stunning. The highest variant sports a music system with 4 speakers and Bluetooth connectivity too which happens to be the biggest assets of the interiors. Digital clock, digital odometer, two trip metres and tachometer are well placed in the instrument panel. The interiors are done up in dual tone and fabric upholstery. The air conditioner’s performance too is satisfactory. The rear view mirror is power activated with vanity mirror for the co passenger in the front seat and a complete length of console.

Performance

Talking of Ford Figo’s performance, it makes for a smooth ride on city roads as well as the highways. The top variant sport ABS, EBL and EBD as the safety features which are very useful in emergencies. The mileage delivered by the petrol engine is 12.5 kmpl in the city and 15.5 kmpl on highways. The diesel engine is capable of delivering a mileage of 14.5 kmpl in the city and 18.5 kmpl on the highways. The all in all performance of both the engines is decent, though not exciting enough. The city drive will be seen as good but its futile expecting thrills on highways. To be frank enough, Ford Figo’s engine is not the best in the class but not worse either.
