Honda Amaze Review

The Honda Amaze is the first compact sedan produced by Japanese public multinational corporation Honda Motor Company Limited. The Honda Amaze is based on the Brio hatchback and comes in ten versions with two engine, two fuel and two transmission options. The Honda Amaze is the company’s first car to get a diesel engine in India.

The price of the Honda Amaze starts at Rs 5.30 lakhs and goes up to Rs 8.20 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi. The Honda Amaze competes directly with the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Figo Aspire and Tata Zest.

ENGINE AND SPECIFICATIONS

Honda Amaze uses 1.2 litre, 1198 cc, 4 cylinder, i-VTEC petrol engine and 1.5 litre, 1498 cc, i-DTEC diesel engine

The Honda Amaze is available in both the alternatives of petrol and diesel engine. The 1.2 litre, 1198 cc, 4 cylinder, i-VTEC petrol engine churns out 87 bhp of power at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 109 Nm at 4500 rpm. Whereas, the 1.5 litre, 1498 cc, i-DTEC diesel engine makes a maximum power of 99 bhp at 3600 rpm and a peak torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm. Both the engines come paired to a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox. However, the petrol powered Honda Amaze also comes with a CVT automatic transmission gearbox.

As far as mileage is concerned, the petrol powered Honda Amaze has an ARAI-certified mileage of 17.8 kmpl, while the CVT automatic gearbox delivers an ARAI-certified mileage of 18.1 kmpl. On the other hand, the diesel powered Honda Amaze gives an ARAI-certified mileage of 25.8 kmpl. Besides, the Honda Amaze comes with a fuel tank capacity of 35 liters.

In terms of acceleration, the car reaches the 0 – 100 kmph mark in just 13.3 seconds. The petrol powered Honda Amaze has 175 kmph of top speed, whereas the diesel powered Honda Amaze can achieve the top speed of 165 kmph.

The Honda Amaze is a handsome looking sedan and comes with stunningly bold exterior. The Honda Amaze is based on the Brio platform and looks like a saloon designed. The front grill of the Honda Amaze has a thick chrome slat decorated with the Honda logo. Other features of the Honda Amaze include body coloured door handles, power adjustable ORVMs, 14 inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps and many more.         

In terms of dimension, the Honda Amaze measures 3990 mm in length, 1680 mm in width and 1505 mm in height, at the same time the Honda Amaze has a wheelbase of 2405 mm and a standard ground clearance of 165 mm.

The Honda Amaze is available with a choice of seven glittering colours- Carnellan Red Pearl, Golden Brown, Bluish Titanium, Orchid White Pearl, Alabaster Silver, Taffeta White and Alabaster Silver.

INTERIOR

Honda Amaze interior allows 5-6 people sit comfortably.The boot space has a huge capacity of 400 litres.

The Honda Amaze comes with strikingly premium interior. The interior of the car has a dual tone design with black and beige colours. The three spoke wheel comes with a silver accent and tilt steering.

The Honda Amaze is loaded with plenty of features like keyless entry, driver seat height adjuster, rear seat centre armrest with built-in cup holders, instrument cluster, piano black centre console, steering mounted audio controls, Bluetooth, Aux-in and USB port. Apart from these features, the Honda Amaze is blessed with 3D speedometer and automatic AC.

The seats of the car are comfortable and the front seats get an integrated head rest with ample headroom and legroom. Besides, the Honda Amaze comes with class leading boot space capacity of 400 litre.

PERFORMANCE

With an impressive ride quality and an ARAI-certified mileage of 18.1 kmpl the car is a decent performer in the segment

The Honda Amaze is a decent performer. Handling of the car is fairly good, at the same time the ride quality of the sedan is superb. On the braking front, the sedan is fitted with disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear. In addition, the car gets the traditional independent MacPherson struts suspension at the front and torsion beam suspension at the rear.

In terms of safety, the Honda Amaze comes equipped with ACE body structure, front dual airbags, WAVE key, front seat belt and driver seat belt reminder, high mounted stop lamp, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), child safety locks, pre-tensioner seat belts with load limiters and engine immobilizer.

ADVANTAGES

The Honda Amaze has spacious interiors and comes with 3D speedometer with multi information display. The sedan has respectable top speed. Besides, engine performance of the car is good.

DRAWBACKS

The major drawback of the Honda Amaze is its NVH levels of the diesel engine variants, which is very poor. The dashboard of the car is simple. The sedan does not have climate control feature. In addition, some advanced features of the Honda Amaze are available only on the higher versions.

VERDICT

The Honda Amaze is a value-for-money car. The sedan is fairly well built and a good handler, at the same time it is highly fuel efficient too. Moreover, the sedan has sufficient amount of boot space. Hence, it is really fun to drive the Honda Amaze.
