Hyundai Xcent Review – High quality interiors and comfort ride

The Hyundai Xcent is a good looking compact sedan manufactured by Hyundai Motor India Limited. In terms of styling, the compact sedan is based on the Hyundai Grand i10. The Hyundai Xcent comes in nine versions with two engine, two transmission and two fuel options. The major highlights of the Hyundai Xcent are its high quality interiors and ride comfort.  

The price of the Hyundai Xcent starts at Rs 5.18 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.19 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi. The Hyundai Xcent competes with the Honda Amaze, the Tata Zest and the Maruti Swift Dzire.   

ENGINE AND SPECIFICATIONS

1.2- litre Kappa dual VTVT petrol engine of Hyundai Xcent

The Hyundai Xcent comes with a choice of two engines- diesel and petrol units. The 1120 cc, three cylinder, 1.1- litre U2, 2nd generation CRDi diesel engine produces a maximum power of 70 bhp at 4000 rpm and a peak torque of 160 Nm at 1500 – 2750 rpm.

On the other hand, the 1197 cc, 1.2- litre Kappa dual VTVT petrol engine churns out a maximum power of 82 bhp at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 114 Nm at 4000 rpm. Both the engines are paired with a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox, although the petrol engine also comes mated with a 4-speed automatic transmission gearbox. 

The diesel powered Hyundai Xcent has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 24.4 kmpl, while the petrol motor delivers 19.10 kmpl. Besides, the Hyundai Xcent has a 43 litre of fuel tank capacity.

As far as accelerations of the Hyundai Xcent is concerned, the petrol engine accelerates the 0 -100 kmph in about 13 seconds with a top speed of 172 kmph, whereas the diesel engine sprints the 0 -100 kmph in about 16 seconds with a top speed of 156 kmph. 

EXTERIOR

The Hyundai Xcent is based on the Fluidic design philosophy of the company and comes with modern, sporty and progressive exteriors. The front profile of the car gets smart headlamps, chrome plated radiator grille, a large chrome finished hexagonal air dam, body coloured front bumpers with smart fog lamp.

While, the side profile of the sedan has stubby bonnet, large windows and dual tone diamond cut 15-inch alloy wheels, though the lower trims get 14-inch alloy wheels. And at the rear, the Hyundai Xcent gets elegant tail-lamps with large number plate holder.

In terms of dimensions, the Hyundai Xcent measures 3995 mm in length, 1660 mm in width and 1520 mm in height, at the same time the Hyundai Xcent has 165 mm of ground clearance and a wheelbase of 2425 mm.

INTERIOR

Hyundai Xcent has best-in-class 407-litres of boot space

The interior of the Hyundai Xcent is luxurious, stylish and spacious. The compact sedan has roomy cabin and the dual tone colour scheme of black and beige of the cabin is appealing. The dark grey coloured-dashboard of the compact sedan comes with an advanced instrument panel that is very useful for the driver. In addition, the Hyundai Xcent is equipped with a multi functional steering together with audio controls and Bluetooth connectivity.

Other impressive features of the Hyundai Xcent include push button start, electrically internally adjustable outside mirrors, keyless entry, front and rear power windows, seamlessly integrated seat back pocket, passenger vanity mirror, cooled glove box, rear seat centre armrest with cup holder and high performing air conditioner with rear AC vents and 2-DIN music player with 1GB internal memory, AUX-in and USB ports.

Apart from these features, the sedan has plenty of head room, leg room, knee room and ample shoulder room, and, at the same time, the Hyundai Xcent has best-in-class 407-litres of boot space.

PERFORMANCE

Hyundai Xcent has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 24.4 kmpl, while the petrol motor delivers 19.10 kmpl.

The performance of the Hyundai Xcent is excellent. Handling of the sedan is balanced and ride is nice. On the breaking front, the sedan is fitted with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. Besides, McPherson struts suspension system at the front and torsion beam suspension system at the rear provide a comfort ride.

In terms of safety, the Hyundai Xcent comes equipped with a bunch of safety features like Anti-lock brake system (ABS), driver and passenger airbags, central locking system, smart keyless entry, rear seat belts, seat belt warning, rear parking sensors with rear camera, day-night mirrors, rear defogger and engine immobilizer.          

ADVANTAGES

The Hyundai Xcent is loaded with features. The compact sedan has elegant styling along with a spacious, comfortable and quiet cabin. Moreover, the Hyundai Xcent comes with an attractive price range.                 

DRAWBACKS

The Hyundai Xcent does not have traction control. Fuel efficiency of petrol version is not much impressive. Ground clearance of the car is not up to the mark. Furthermore, the driving dynamics of the compact sedan is not very exciting.

VERDICT

The Hyundai Xcent is a blend of impressively rich interiors and decent ride comfort. The sedan is loaded with comfort, convenience and safety features. No doubt, all these features make it a nice product to buy.
