Maruti Suzuki Ignis Review- Fuel Efficient But Cramped Backseat

Automobile companies are launching marvelous products these days. In this scenario, the largest automaker of the country Maruti Suzuki India has introduced a new car – the Ignis. 

The team of Maruti Suzuki has made such a product that directly targets Young India. The look of this car is such that one class would like while the other might feel weird. Although, the youth will certainly love this car and this is because it looks different from the crowd.

As far as price is concerned, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis comes within a price bracket of Rs 4.59 lakh – 7.80 lakh. The prices are ex- showroom, New Delhi.

Exterior

The slightly retro- inspired headlights with daytime running lights (DRLs) of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis give it a different identity from a distance. It is a compact car but with elements such as black cladding give it a masculine look. However, its different look can remove those who want a traditional design car.Among the interesting facts about IGNIS . the car’s exterior  is inspired from four previous car models by Suzuki.

But, Maruti already has a lot of options for them. It has been introduced as a premium car and it will be available from the company’s Nexa dealership.

Engine Specifications And Performance   

IGNIS Delivers mileage of Petrol : 20.69 | Diesel : 26.80 kmpl in respective engines

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is available in both options – a 1.2- liter petrol engine and a 1.3- liter diesel engine. With 1.2- liter, 4- cylinder VVT petrol engine, in addition to the manual gearbox, there is also an option of AMT gearbox.

This engine produces the maximum power of 82 bhp at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 4200 rpm. In the petrol version, it returns an ARAI – certified fuel efficiency of 20.89 kmpl. In city traffic, AMT with this small size car can make your journey a lot easier. Nonetheless, this combination is not available in the top variant. 

On the other hand, the 1.3- litre, 4- cylinder DDiS diesel engine is also tried and tested. This engine generates 74 bhp of maximum power at 4000 rpm and 190 Nm of peak torque at 2000 rpm.

As for mileage, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis diesel version has an ARAI – certified fuel efficiency of 26.80 kmpl. So, if mileage is your priority then this is a better option for you.

Both engines offer good performance on the city and highway. Despite a small car, its handling on the highway is good. Body rolls but the vehicle confidence does not decrease. Ride quality is also fine but there is a little difficulty on the bad roads.

Interior

The interior is also designed like retro- looking SUVs. You will not realize that you are sitting in a hatchback car sitting inside. Despite being a compact car, the cabin is quite spacious. Front seats are much comfortable. People of average- height can sit easily on the rear seats, nonetheless three people feel difficulty in sitting.

Safety And Comfort

In terms of safety, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis comes equipped with dual front airbags, Anti- lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake- force Distribution (EBD), seatbelts with pre- tensioner and force limiter and ISOFIX child seat.

At the same time, you will get several comfort features like push button start and auto air conditioning system. Moreover, features such as Android Auto and Apple Car Play with touch screen infotainment system have been provided, with which you can connect your smartphone and use it in the car. Sound quality is also good. 

Rivals

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis competes directly with the Mahindra KUV100 and the Hyundai Grand i10.

Verdict

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a nice looking car which comes with a competitive price range. It has superb performance. Ride and handling of the car is impressive. Cabin is comfortable and spacious but back seat is cramped. Moreover, its mileage is also up to the mark. No doubt, it is a value for money product.
