Tata Nexon Review-Powerful Engine and Good Looking Car

The Tata Nexon car is the latest entrant in the sub 4 – metre SUV segment. Tata Motors showcased this car at the 2016 Auto Expo. It looks fantastic and comes equipped with three drive modes – Eco, City and Sport.

The Tata Nexon is launched in five variants – XE, XM, XT, XZ+ and XZ+ with dual tone. As far as price of this new sub-compact SUV is concerned, its prices start at Rs 5.85 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.44 lakh. All prices are ex – showroom, Delhi.

Exterior

Review on Exterior Look of Nexon

On the exterior front, the Tata Nexon gets a dual tone design which makes it attractive and stylish. The car is based on the Bolt platform, and its front facia looks muscular.

The new sub-compact SUV comes equipped with projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, humanity line mesh grille, 16- inch diamond cut alloy wheels, bulging wheel arches, sloping roofline and roof rails.

At the rear, the sub-compact SUV sports a compact tailgate, LED taillights, rear spoiler and rear bumper with black plastic cladding. Moreover, the Tata Nexon boasts fog lamps at the front and at the rear.         

The Tata Nexon comes available in five attractive colours – Vermont Red, Moroccan Blue, Calgary White, Glasgow grey and Seattle Silver.

In terms of dimension, the sub-compact SUV measures 3994 mm in length, 1811 mm in width and 1607 mm in height. At the same time, the car has a wheelbase of 2498 mm and 209 mm of ground clearance.

The Tata Nexon is available in both options – a 1.2- litre turbocharged petrol engine and 1.5- litre turbocharged diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 108 BHP of maximum power at 5000 rpm and 170 Nm of peak torque at 1750 – 4000 rpm.

While, the diesel engine generates 108 BHP of maximum power at 3750 rpm and 260 Nm of peak torque at 1500 – 2750 rpm. Currently, both the engines are linked to a six – speed manual transmission. Although, AMT options will also be made available by the company in near future.

As far as mileage is concerned, the petrol – powered Tata Nexon delivers an ARAI- certified mileage of 17 kmpl, while the diesel – powered Nexon returns a fuel efficiency of 21.50 kmpl. Besides, the sub-compact SUV has a fuel tank capacity of 44- litre.

Interior

On the inside, the sub-compact SUV gets fabric upholstery and three- tone theme. The car has bucket seats and front armrest with storage space. The cabin is quite spacious and five passengers can sit comfortably. 

Other features of the Tata Nexon include power windows, electrically operated wing mirrors, engine start – stop button, steering mounted audio controls and automatic climate control with rear air vents.

Apart from these, the Tata Nexon gets 6.5 -inch floating Harman Infotainment System with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and navigation and 8- speaker sound system. The car also has cooled glove box, reverse parking sensors and reverse camera.    

Safety Features

On the safety front, the Tata Nexon comes equipped with plenty of safety features such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), dual front airbags, seatbelt with pretensioners and load limiters, ISOFIX Child restraint system for rear seats and engine immobilizer as standard features.

On the other hand the top – end models gets front fog lamps with cornering assistance, park assist with camera, speed dependent auto door locks and rear fog lamps features too. 

Performance  

Performance  review of Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon offers three drives modes – Sport, Eco and City. On the braking front, the sub-compact SUV gets disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. In addition, the Tata Nexon is fitted with McPherson struts up front suspension and a twist beam setup rear suspension. 

The handling of this sub-compact SUV is extremely nice, and at the same time it provides a comfortable riding. 

Rivals

The Tata Nexon will compete directly with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra TUV300, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra NuvoSport, Fiat Avventura Urban Cross, Honda WRV and Fiat Avventura.

Verdict

The main highlight of the Tata Nexon is its multi drive mode – Sport, Eco and City, which is the first – in – segment feature. The sub-compact SUV comes loaded with several advanced safety and comfort features.

In addition, it comes with powerful petrol and diesel engine options. The performance of this sub-compact SUV is also excellent. On the whole, the Tata Nexon is an excellent value for money product.
